ILM Level 5 Diploma in Principles of Leadership and Management
This course is delivered via Distance learning over a period of approximately nine months. It combines both ‘on and off the job learning’.
Background
Employers are required to evidence that their business is well-led and that sustainable management and leadership is embedded for the short, medium and long term. A fundamental duty placed on employers is to recognise the need for business improvement and development. Also to have a deeper level of insight into the future of dentistry and how this impacts and influences practice goals and objectives.
Programme Structure
This is a blended learning course which combines distance learning videos with a virtual platform. Monthly tutorial meetings take place with an appointed assessor/advisor throughout the duration of the course. The course is delivered over a set time period of approximately nine months (maximum twelve months.)
Course Outline
The overall aim is to assist delegates in learning new skills and developing new ways of thinking which is vital for Managing and Leading your Dental teams.
The following Management and Leadership subjects are delivered during the course of study:
- Understanding the management role to improve performance
- Developing critical thinking
- Managing improvement
- Leading innovation and change
- Making a financial case
- Delegating authority in the workplace
- Managing own continuing professional development
Assessment
Learners are required to demonstrate their knowledge & understanding of management principles across a prescribed number of units, this is evidenced through the completion of work based assignments.
Delegate Pre-requisites
No specific prior qualifications are required, however, those who have completed a management course of study at levels 3 or 4 may find it beneficial as a route of progression.
Delegate Specification
If you are a middle manager or aspiring manager seeking a thorough grounding in your role and responsibilities, plus the opportunity to consolidate and further develop the core skills and knowledge required at this level then this course is for you. Working within a dental practice or related work setting and have management responsibilities is a requirement.
Progression
For individuals with a strategic management and leadership responsibility the ilm Level 7 NVQ in Strategic Management and Leadership is a route of progression.
